The Story of Pacha Mama's Grove
Pacha Mama’s Grove is a collective demonstration of what can happen when three gals are willing to live their dream. Vicki planted the first seed over ten years by starting the San Diego Women’s Drum Circle which eventually brought the three of us together where we shared our dreams and one of them was to have a drum retreat.
In the summer of 2006 while sitting around waiting for a client, Susie looked through a Dream Home magazine. There she saw a 52 acre home For Sale in Julian and got all excited. What a great place for a retreat and as one who likes to dream she pulled it out of the magazine, took it home and put it up on a wall.
In the meantime, Vicki, Elsa and Susie were out and about looking for a location to hold the first San Diego Women’s Drum Retreat. It was hard finding the right place, one was sweet but in a residential neighborhood, another didn’t think we were a good match…whatever that means – we just wanted to drum – and another was to pricey. What we really wanted wasn’t out there so we settled on the one that was sweet, and it was.
While the search for a location was happening Susie still had the photo of the property in Julian up on her wall and then it happened, Susie “had “to see the property and so she did. She got all excited and called Vicki and Elisa, she told them she found this great piece of property it was 52 acres, it would be perfect for our drum retreats and we are buying it. And much t o Susie’s surprise, they said …. Okay. And that is how it all began, but wait you say, Pacha Mama’s is on Palomar Mountain not Julian. Well as it turns out, the longer we sat with the idea the less it felt like the “right” place so Susie called her friend Connie Kenny and asked her to do a land search to see what else was out there. Two days later Connie called back and before she was even done describing the land over the phone we knew it was what we were looking for and the rest as they would say is history.
Many have asked where we got the name Pacha Mama’s Grove. Pacha Mama is Peruvian for Mother Earth and all of us have a strong affinity with the earth so when Susie suggested to use Pacha Mama it seemed like a perfect fit, it felt warm and inviting. Next came Pacha Mama what? Ranch? Farm? naw, Pacha Mama was just not a farm or ranch. Elisa suggested using grove like the gals at Diana’s Grove in Missouri . Pacha Mama’s Grove…that’s it !!!!!!!!!! perfect! And that is how it all began.
