San Diego Women's Drum Circle

Vicki’s Story

From the time I was a little girl, I knew that I had been given a healing spirit.  My grandmother used to say:  Vicki, you know that you have a dream -- make it grow.  As I grew, I wanted to share my gift through music, healing touch, laughter, play and love.  All along I planned to create a sacred and joyful space where individuals, women and men, families, groups could encounter the beauty of nature and the blessings of connecting with one another.   In 2006 we found and bought Pacha Mama's Grove and the dream became a new reality, full of possibilities.

Here's how it happened.  More than a decade ago I connected with the pulse of the drum and knew that  it was  spiritually transformative experience. Feeling the exhilaration and healing energy of the drum, intuitively I knew drumming would have a positive impact in our world.  I wanted to share this experience with my family, my friends,  and the communities in which I had spent my adult life.

When breast cancer touched the life of my dear friend Margo I called upon friends to hold a drum circle.  We surrounded her with our healing rhythmic energy because illness can be a scary experience for all involved.  The energy and power of that one evening set the foundation of our work which continues to ripple out into a variety of diverse and culture communities.  That profound moment that gave birth to the San Diego Women’s Drum Circle

Through the rhythm of the drum we have touched the lives of cancer survivors, burn victims and recovery groups just to name a few.   We have touched the lives of people who have lost hope and people who are filled with hope, of those who are struggling with life's difficulties and those who are sitting at the top of their world.  Drumming brings us together to nourish one another's spirit and to energize our own.
. This is where our beat began and our healing community was created.    Drumming heals, drumming comforts, drumming inspires, drumming awakens, drumming invigorates, drumming makes a sacred noise in the souls of people who open their hearts and places hands on an instrument.  Drumming brings us together as we celebrate our unique and diverse rhythms.

We continued to Bridge Communities One Beat at a Time.

As the SD Women’s Drum Circle continued to expand our need for our own retreat space called us to Palomar Mountain.  I heard my Grandmother’s words calling me to follow my dream.     So we have opened Pacha Mama’s Grove to communities who wish to follow their dreams.  The drum circle now has a home for sure, but that’s just the beginning of the story.  I can’t wait to write the next chapter with all those who seek to realize their dreams and are led to Pacha Mama’s Grove to discover their own laughter, love, healing and joy.
